Our Story

the old boathouse and the new

The Boathouse at 'Tween Lakes property, approximately sixty acres lying between Clearwater Lake and Cedar Lake, was purchased by Cyrus and Gladys Wade in the 1940's. They built the original boathouse on Clearwater Lake, right across from our entrance, around that time. That boathouse, still in use, was home for a 1948 Larson cedar strip fishing boat which remains on the property as part of our boat collection.

The new boathouse will be home for several additional restored wooden speedboats and other watercraft from the 1920’s through the 1950’s. There will also be several special boats that are working their way through the extensive restoration process and being put into operational condition.

These old boats were long gone from age and lack of care when they were found, but they have now been meticulously restored to their original specifications and luster. This process often takes several years and involves completing the wooden structure where necessary, locating old hardware and restoring it, dismantling and rebuilding the engine, restoring old gauges and decorative panels, and authenticating colors and details of the time period. The goal is for a museum quality restoration that runs and operates as it did when originally built.

The new boathouse, The Boathouse at 'Tween Lakes, will also serve as a venue for special events and can accommodate groups from 25 to 250 people.
